“A phenomenal up and coming talent – after an hour of Mischa you will be inspired to live life!” – No Plugs

Biography

After his brother gave him a Guns ‘N’ Roses album, his sister gave him a Levellers album and his babysitter gave him a Nirvana mix-tape at the age of 6, Mischa’s influences were set from an early age! From this early seeding of musical greatness, his influences have become more eclectic taking inspiration from all forms of Folk, Blues, Rock, Metal, Punk, Hip Hop, Classical and Electronic music. Mischa spent his teen years playing in various local bands as a lead guitarist and he even spent 3 years DJing Hard Trance and Techno, getting some prominent gigs in the South West. However, the love for his 6 strings never left him and after moving to Bournemouth and with much encouragement from friends, he went to play his first solo-gig.

From here he has enjoyed an ever growing reputation in Bournemouth and a blossoming career along England’s south coast. His undoubted and unique talent as a singer-songwriter is only matched by his glowing charisma that has helped endear himself to the hearts of many. A spiritual man, Mischa’s songs encompass the whole cycle of life from the feeling of emotional pain, old memories and the realisation they can make you stronger; the fresh ‘honeymoon’ days of falling in love and the paranoid fears that can go with this; the constant grind of a day job to the liberation of a weekend and the path to musical enlightenment; the mysticism that surrounds the world and the effect humans have on it.

‘On My Own’ is a tribute to a good man called Christian, who Mischa used to jam with on the streets of Bournemouth in the early hours of the morning when coming back from club nights. On the way back from work one day he saw him dying form a heroin overdose and whilst struggling to help him he asked help of passersby; no one helped or cared. Once he finally got him in to the car to get to a hospital and got him to A&E he found the nurses were equally unsympathetic to the man’s condition due to the fact it was self-induced and although they would not let another human being die, they were very condescending to the situation and told him there was nothing further Mischa could do and told him to leave. So deeply affected by this event and the disregard for a dying human being by others, regardless of how that person came to be dying, he wrote this song straight from the heart and had it finished in 15 minutes. It is written as a caricature to Christian, whilst acting as a paradigm of Mischa’s own life experiences.

Mischa is a self confessed spiritualist and has a deep connection with the more subtle elements of the human condition. Two years to the exact day, and after not seeing Christian since this incident, when playing On My Own to an audience in Boscombe, Christian walked in when Mischa was playing this and listened to the song…for Mischa it was proof the wheels of Karma continue to turn…and a timely reminder of the deep connection and stream of consciousness that flows through us all every day.

Live Recording and Production Techniques

Haiti Fundraiser – The Old Firestation, Bournemouth – February 7th 2010 18:00

Here are three videos I filmed at a live event.  Mischa was busking to raise money for Haiti after their recent disaster, a noble cause one might say.  The event was actually a relative success and although Mischa was on his own for hours on end he provided some rather original and unique music to pull on the heart string of many. This footage will be the beginning of an archive of footage of Mischa that I will use when making my DVD that can be distributed at events in the future!  But more will follow on that at a later date…..for now i wish to only concentrate on recording and making video for Mischa and using this as the platform on which to develope my production techniques..

These are merely two videos that I shot of Mischa that utilized a relatively new technique of playing a guitar called percussive fingerstyle.  It uses percussion and and the creation of a resonating sound, meaning one musician can create some truely unique music. In this case I felt it would display Mischas range of style whilst showing a more rustic element to his music in its purist form.

The next video was actually my main reason for going to this charity gig.  I wanted to achieve two things, one was to record a live version of the song Mischa wants me to make a video for called On My Own’.  The other was to try an experimental technique of recording a song with one camera, but  recording it in a way that meant i could make it look like multi camera filming.  This essentially meant that I had to film him singing the song from one angle, with the vocals and lip synching included.  Then, I would record him playing other songs but use a variety of shots that I could integrate into the post production phase.  It works ok, but with a little more practice im sure i could make it work even better in the future. Here it is…

Pink Moon – Chaplins, Bournemouth – February 23rd 20:00

This shoot was never that vita in any sense of the word. However, it was yet another chance for me to practice recording at a live event and make the inevitable mistakes that would in time enrich my development.  I had one issue when filming and that was the layout of the room.  It wasnt a big room so my choice of shot was rather limited when taking health and safety into account.  So my camera shots are pretty straight forward. The other glaring default with this footage is the poor quality of sound.  Because i was filming at the back of the bar the crowd noises were alot more prominent and this over rode the actual music a little bit. So next time i film i will attach a sound cble to ensure i get decent sound quality instead of this poor excuse
